Jul 16, 2010 · The Edge and the Improved 338 Lapua were the velocity leaders. All were accurate as hell. The Lapua improved only beat out my Edge by about 30fps and took alot more powder to do it. Brass didn't last any longer either. I know guys are getting 10 reloads on the Lapua brass, My thought was that if i go the .338 Edge Way, maybe i could use the RCBS Gold Medal .338 Ultra bullet seater die (.338 is .338 after all) and figure out my options for full-size and neck re-sizing dies. Initially i was thinking of the most convenient "precision" bullet seater. Jul 22, 2020 · The following graph was my experience with Retumbo and WC860 in a .338 Edge (.338/.300 RUM) with 300gr projectiles (SMKs and Bergers) in a 25" barrel. Red X is measured Retumbo speed. Blue X is measured WC860 speed. Red circles are Quickload-predicted speed with US869. Green line is Quickload pressure (right hand scale) with US869. I have personally had more issues with bad shots due to ranging errors than wind reading errors. Another advantage to the lighter bullets, especially in a hunting-weight 338, is reduced recoil.
