Try to use elemental weapons. Fire for humans and animals. Shock for shielded targets, Corrosive for robots and armored targets. Explosive works fairly well on everything. You can ignore Slag while you're in Normal mode. Maya is also good with Sniper weapons. Try to find a good Jacobs sniper. Maliwans are good too.

It's not hard to solo the Dragons as Axton, double turrets with shield, magic missile, bee shield, flaker, ahab, DPUH, Grog nozzle and an Explosive relic.
