Yes the XR2 would rev between 5500 to 6000 compared to 5000-5500 of the standard blackmax. It is slightly ported, 200hp exhaust and jetted carbs. The only 3 things that would do that is. 1. the stop circuit, which you ruled out by disconnecting the black/yellow wire. 2. the stator, which you will go test. 3 The switchboxes, which are not testable.
